Retired

My favorite pants had to be retired today.

No matter how long I lay on my back I could not get the button done up. I am afraid that if I had been able to button them when I stood up there may have been some real damage.

For now they will sit in the extra dresser downstairs where I will not have to look at them but I can still smile about it because of why they no longer reach around my belly!

Birthday cake

The Birthday kids

Everyone helping open Ben's gift.
They each wanted a different cake and now that they are getting older it is harder to combine their likes.

We had a small party today for Ben and Adalee in our 'party room' with all the grandparents. Opening gifts and partaking of cake was the only thing on the agenda. We did this so family could visit and we would get gifts out of the way before the 'friend party' next sat at the bounce house.

6 weeks

I think.

And if I am right the baby is the size of a lentil bean.

I saw this cute idea of a girl that took pictures of her disappearing feet. This first one is not very exciting but it might be fun to refer back to when they are no longer in view.

FHE

Because my sister is gone this week and left her children under my care with help from my parents. I decided what better time then to start up FHE again. Six kids are easier to get to listen than two any day right? The answer might be surprising. I would not say they listened any better than normal but with other kids in the house they were more willing to participate. So this is what we did.

Homemade Ice Cream Team

Materials needed:
Ice cream ingredients:
1 quart whole milk
1 quart half and half
2 cups sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla
Other items:
Ice
Rock salt
1 gallon-sized zipper bag
1 pint-sized bag for every two people

-Mix the ice cream ingredients together and pour the mixture back into the containers.
-Have family members pair up. If necessary, put a parent in charge of each younger pair.
-One partner takes a large bag, and the other partner takes a small bag.
-Fill the large bag half full of ice and sprinkle in plenty of rock salt ( about two handfuls; for small hands three or four)
-Pour the milk mixture into the small bag until it’s half full.
-Press all the air out of the small bag and place it inside the large one. Press all the air out of the large bag.
To make ice cream, the bag needs constant movement. Work in teams to keep it constantly moving until you reach your goal.
-The process takes about 15 minutes -- 10 if you prefer a milk-shake consistency.

Add toppings if desired.

Talk about how this activity involved teamwork. Sometimes the team member’s hands got cold- sometimes teamwork can be uncomfortable- but it is nice to share the burden with another person. Explain the working together is sometimes hard, but sweet is the reward.

SCRIPTURE: Matthew 12:25
“And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand”
Eating our "Sweet Reward"

*After completing this 'experiment' I would recommend double bagging both bags because the rock salt puts holes in them. Salt gets on the floor and makes your ice cream taste funny.

1 in 4

The other day Tyler and I were laughing at a commercial that said, "1 in 4 women can misread a pregnancy test" How hard could it be?

It is a plus sign or a negative sign those ladies must be really dumb.

I must be an idiot.

Yesterday I took a test that I could not read.

There is only one line it is just not pointing in the right direction.

One horizontal line -representing a negative sign=not pregnant
One horizontal line+One vertical line making a plus sign= pregnant.

What am I suppose to do with ONE vertical line??

needless to say we were getting no sleep that night so Tyler ran to the store and bought two more tests. (different brand)

This morning there were TWO (very faint) blue lines.

We are having a baby!!

What to do with all that candy?

I wish I could remember what magazine I was reading that recommended this web site but I think it is a great idea.

We always use our candy for the Christmas countdown calendars that we make, we might skip the countdown this year and just play mad scientists.
How do you get rid of your Halloween candy?
